The Effects of an Untreated Tongue Tie
A Tongue tie can have lasting impacts through childhood and into adulthood. Our body is incredibly intertwined; when one system is not working properly, we rely on compensations that can become detrimental to our whole body function and overall health.
Tongue tie can lead to the following issues:
Mouth breathing and restricted airway --> can lead to increased risk of cardiovascular disease
Low tongue posture --> weak tongue muscles --> can lead to snoring and/or sleep apnea
High palate and narrow jaw --> can lead to crowded/ crooked teeth, orthodontic relapse
Poor breathing and sleep --> can lead to attention and behavior issues (ADHD symptoms) and/or anxiety
Forward swallow pattern --> can lead to speech, feeding, and/or gut issues
